BD West Trade Show Los Angeles brings hospitality working professionals together to celebrate great design. Boutique Design West is renowned for its heightened focus on education, with conference programming that emphasizes progressive ideas from creative minds both in and outside the hospitality design realm, stated on the BD West official website. Us San Diego designers & reps were very sad to see BD West https://www.boutiquedesignwest.com/ move to Los Angeles (now BD West Los Angeles) this year after the last several years enjoying the trade show at the stunning San Diego Convention Center. Seven of us (two local reps and five designers) traversed the I-5 freeway bound for the vibrant LA Live area of Los Angeles where we spent and day and evening hours soaking up new products, new friends and a wonderful dinner.
The BD West trade show brings designers and specifiers from all around the Western part of the United States who work in the hospitality sector such as hotel design, resort furnishings, and restaurant design. Some familiar faces were there such as Kravet and Duralee Fabrics, MDC Wall, Shelby Williams and Justin David Textiles and some new faces from Natie Trails, Panasphere and Blue Pheasant. The installations were fun and interesting, lots of creative ideas and execution in the vignettes. There were an estimated 1,200 designers and 300 hotel/ resort operators in attendance.
Our group was treated to an evening out with Mandy Li Collection out of Shanghai https://mandylicollection.com/ producing exquisite custom casegood furniture. We dined at the outstandingly fashionable Katsuya Restaurant: https://katsuyarestaurant.com/lalive/ where we had the most amazing yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno and Wagyu Tobanyaki (a beef-lover’s dream, served sizzling hot with wild mushrooms) just to name a couple.
Our adventure concluded with our chaperone, Janine Thomas of J Thomas and Associates https://www.jthomasassociates.biz/ driving us back in her party van, sporting Michael Jackson videos, snacks, drinks and laughs all around. The esteemed crew included:
Brenda Nelson of Hospitality Works https://www.linkedin.com/in/brendanielson
Anjum Razvi and Leslie of Razvi Design Studio Inc. https://www.razvidesign.com/
Paula Cleary of Interplan Design https://www.interplan-design.com/
Maria Vesapollo of Sublime Spaces https://www.sublimespaces.biz/
The BD West show brings the A&D community together in a way that resembles a sorority. No matter where you work, your experience, age, or particular interest…the one common denominator is the respect for the importance of great design. I know even though we now have to travel a couple hours north, year after year we will certainly make efforts to attend, participate and support the Boutique Design West (BD West Los Angeles) trade show!
