A client aquired dining chairs from their homes previous owner whose color palette was rust, tans and reds which doesn’t suite the new owners ocean loving interior decor. I suggested we reupholster the chairs since they have a great contemporary feel and are well made.
The seat fabric is:
Pindler Pelham color Graphite which runs $73.75 per yd. trade pricing
The back fabric is:
Kravet Infinity Beige color Midnight which runs $148 trade pricing
The chairs where $100 each to reupholster and the fabric in total was $1,661
Reupholstery cost: $2,671 for 8 chairs, averaging to $334 per chair. This is comparable to the cost of new chairs, except the client picked the exact material (they have good taste as most good quality fabrics run between $50 – $75 per yard). Retail stores like Thomasville or Ethan Allen offer what’s called COM (Customer’s Own Material) for their upholstered pieces. The difference is they charge the client for the cost of their entry grade fabric (so you are paying for fabric twice esentially) so it’s not always financially sound to go this route unless you find a fabric they carry you like, then it can be.
